Big lights will inspire you

It’s taken me quite some time to get to finish editing photos from my trip to New York City last June (2015). Even so, I’m only posting a fraction of what I took but this was a good exercise in culling and only sharing what I felt was necessary. A former colleague and friend of mine (Karilee) and I, thought it would be fun to meet up in New York City for a few days to catch up while visiting one of our favourite places – and when you get the okay from your hubby to do these kinds of things, you need to act quickly!

It would be my fourth time visiting New York City and I felt pretty comfortable navigating the streets of Manhattan and taking the subway on my own when I arrived hours before my friend did. We both agreed that we would make a list of a few things we wanted to see (that neither of us had seen yet) and dedicate some more time to Brooklyn. Other than that, we took our time walking, talking, enjoying the familiar areas of the city, eating and stopping for much needed cold gelato or drinks whenever we needed to. Little did we know it was going to be a sweltering 30c when we were there. Ducking into shops with air conditioning to cool off was an absolute must. While we avoided the overcrowded and touristy Times Square at all costs, we did hit some of the landmarks that make New York so New York, like walking through beautiful Central Park and across the Brooklyn Bridge. New York City also has some of the best museums in the world and this time we went to the Whitney at its new location overlooking Chelsea and the High Line Park.

It’s simply impossible to see everything in such a short amount of time. There are so many areas outside of the city that I want to get to one day but it will have to wait. Trips like these are good for the soul and much-needed – I’m so very lucky and grateful to have the opportunity and support to do these kinds of things. Until next time, New York.

We walked a long time before we found Adam Yauch Park, the park dedicated to the Beastie Boys member “MCA” who passed away from cancer. I looked for it more so my hubby, who has been a HUGE fan since before we even met each other. He was surprised that the park sign said no skateboarding as Adam Yauch loved skateboarding. Unfortunately it was closed so we could not go in to look.

I’ve never been to a Brooklyn Flea but it sure was fun looking around. If it had not been so scorching hot, I could have spent several hours there looking around at all the wares.

Love the colours of Brooklyn.

We put our name down and waited an hour to get into Sweet Chick for their famous chicken and waffles. I had the chicken (with a salad) but not the waffles. It was still delicious.

I loved everything about the Whitney Museum. The location, the design of the building, how it straddled the High Line Park and overlooked Chelsea Piers and Chelsea Market. It’s such a great area of the city. And the art, of course.
