Springtime with Miss B

Fast forward six months and what a big difference it was from when I last saw Brooklyn and her parents. Last time we met up, it was a chilly fall day and Brooklyn was only one at the time and we were shooting dangerously close to her dinnertime. I found out later this little gal loved to eat and got very grumpy when she was hungry. Hmmm… I know what that’s like. Six months later, the grass is bright green, it was warm and sunny, flowers were blooming and Miss B was running around and talking up a storm. It was a beautiful day and we had fun running after this little girl who was very determined to do her own thing. Thanks for a jolly good time, Miss B and thank you for not losing my car keys.

Ohm on the range – all things robot

A couple of weekends ago, on a sunny, blustery afternoon, I met up with Sandy, Rick, Everett and Kathryn for some family photos. Talk about nice family and cute kids – little Kathryn recently turned one and looked like a little fashionista in her denim jacket, colourful dress and capris. She was motoring around and talking already. Her big brother Everett was equally cute and charming with wonderful manners for a three year old. I also quickly learned that Everett had a thing for robots – so as we walked around, we had a few discussions about robots and looking for them. It was fun afternoon and it was great meeting everyone – enjoy your photos!

I couldn’t wait to get this post up and not a day too late as it is sweet baby Julia’s birthday today. Happy birthday, little brown-eyed beauty. It’s already been a year since you arrived – where did the year go? Your parents know you are the last child but certainly not the least. In fact, you have been nothing but rays of sunshine since you came into the world. It was nice spending some time with just you and we look forward to watching you grow (but not too fast, please).

I think you’re pretty cute, J but you cannot have my camera.

Little Scotty

Pat and Sherry welcomed baby Scott into the world last month and he broke the streak of baby girls I met this year. Sherry and I met over 10 years ago (okay more than that) and it was only recently that we met up again through work. I laugh at some of the things we did when we were young(er) and it was great to catch up and see her happily married and now a new mom. It was my pleasure and honour to photograph Sherry and the new addition to her family. I always thought that Sherry was very photogenic, looking at photos that we took from way back - I think these photos confirm that is still true! Congratulations Pat and Sherry on your little boy – he is super sweet and adorable and lucky to have such great parents.

Kinley Ann

So far this year, it’s been raining baby girls! First-time parents Tyler and Sara could not be more smitten with their beautiful little girl Kinley. I know how tiring it can be to be first-time parents, the feedings and long nights, learning everything as you go – it is wonderful and exhausting at the same time. Which is why it is so great that new parents let me come over and photograph their family in those first two weeks, knowing what they have been through. And Sara and Tyler looked happy as can be and Sara was especially gorgeous, so you would never know that they had just been up all night with a new baby. Baby Kinley must have known something was up because even after she was fed three times, she still decided to stay awake for our photo shoot! Clearly, she didn’t want to miss a thing and I was able to capture lots of images of her bright-eyed and alert. And the best part for me was the baby snuggle – just one of the awesome perks of the job! Congratulations again Sara and Tyler!

Baby Keelin

The second baby girl I met in the new year was little Miss Keelin. Her parents Hilary and Mike could not be more delighted about her arrival. In fact, Hilary had the same due date as my sister Judy and delivered a day before she was due. I had also been eagerly anticipating her arrival and was it was no surprise that Keelin is gorgeous like her parents, especially her mom. Hilary and Mike appeared to be handling parenthood with stride – no doubt this little girl will be well loved and doted on. Keelin, you are one special and very lucky girl – it was so nice to hold you and to meet you at last. Congratulations Hilary and Mike!

Victoria Elyse

It’s been a long time since I have been a new Auntie and I’m so excited about my beautiful baby niece Victoria who was born a month ago. Such a lovely name for a lovely little girl. She is such a sweet little thing, with her tiny mouth, fingers and toes – she fit perfectly in my arms when I got to hold her. And I cannot tell you just how proud I am of my sister Judy on becoming a mother for the first time. Judy is so excited to have a little girl to spoil and judging by the amount of clothes in the closet, Victoria will be decked out in the cutest and girly finest. I am delighted that another girl has joined our family and I’m looking forward to watching Victoria grow! Congratulations Judy, Darren and Leif. She is perfect.

Thank you for a wonderful year! I have had a blast with all the families I had the pleasure of meeting and shooting this past year and I am very thankful for being able to do what I love and have so much support from my family and friends.

Last but not least

My last session post for 2011 would not be complete without some photos of the kiddos. In the midst of the hectic fall shooting schedule, family life and training for a half marathon, it was my mission to capture my own family before the snow came. It’s amazing what a year makes! As a child, growing up we didn’t have many family images so maybe that’s part of the reason why I love photography so much and more importantly, how special it is to document those milestones and moments as much as possible. And I don’t know about you, but I still print photos like crazy because for me, looking at them on the computer is fine but I love seeing my kids’ smiles on my walls, on my desk, in my purse and in our albums. And one day, they will grow up, and I want to be able to leave them with something that shows what they were like, and what we were like as a family. To me, those images of memories caught in time are priceless.

A very rare moment – all three kiddos in the same shot! And no one is crying.

I met up with Sara and Tyler before the holidays for their maternity shoot and I just have to say that these are two super sweet people and they are going to be amazing parents to their baby. And Sara is a beautiful and glowing mommy-to-be as you can see from these images. I cannot help but get excited for first-time parents – so many wonderful memories will be created as soon as the baby arrives. I am looking forward to meeting your little bundle sometime in the new year.
